Quick Action Grant Round 1 Outcome
Quick Action Grants provide residence and agencies with the resources to implement their ideas to address two critical issues in our community – Mental Well-Being and Employment/Income Generation. A big thank you to all the organizations, volunteers, residence, and local businesses that took part in the successful round one of the Quick Action Grants.
Wellness Wednesday Paint Night:
This event was a huge hit in Georgina! This was a three series event where participants created their own acrylic painting! Each event had its own artistic theme to give everyone a chance to paint something they like. Approximately 80 participants attended the series of events and majority felt this event supported their mental well-being. There were a lot of new techniques to learn, and many participants enjoyed meeting new people or spending time with family and friends. Prizes were given at the end, and everyone got to take home their art creations. Thank you to the organizers and volunteers for hosting this amazing event and supporting our community!
Meet a Friend BBQ:
Another amazing past Quick Action Grants event. The purpose of this event was to connect families with autistic children or relatives who struggle with social inclusion. Approximately 32 participants attended this event. Participants created new friendships or had a wonderful time interacting with others. Activities included treasure hunt, soccer, basketball, and painting. After the activities, all participants enjoyed a BBQ and spend time talking and interacting with each other. The organizers did an amazing job hosting this event. Thank you for supporting our community!
Project Nourish:
They had it all, food, planting, painting, and moving your body. After this event you felt nourished, refreshed, and recharged! This Quick Action Grant event focused on the 4 ways to nourish your body; art, nature, body movement and food. Approximately 42 participants attended, and the majority felt this event supported their mental well-being. This was a great family environment, and participants had the opportunity to meet new people and create lasting friendships. Activities included painting a pot, dancing with nature, and planting a flower. Thank you to the organizers and volunteers for hosting this amazing event!
Self-Care Sundays:
This Quick Action Grant event focused on the importance of self-care and supplied a safe space for women to gather interact and share their experiences. This event composed of 7 Sunday workshops where participants engaged in activities and interacted with others in the group. Approximately 49 participants attend this series of events and participated in activities including walks with nature, beach cleanup, meditation, virtual yoga, arts and crafts, music and drumming, board games, personal coaching and more. Good Food Collective:
The Good Food Collective started in August 2021 as an initiative to provide fresh, locally sourced, nutritious meals with a home cooked feel to residence. With funding from the Quick Action Grants the Good Food Collective was able to enhance and grow their service to the community. Services include a catering venture, community lunches, and food workshop. The GFC have increased the number of participants for its community lunches to 40-60 participants and its catering venture from 70-120 participants. They have scheduled their first catering event and are planning on hosting workshops such as canning and preserving. Easter Bunny Trail:
For 15 years the Optimist Club of Keswick has hosted an easter egg hunt, however due to the pandemic this event has been postponed the last few years. With funding from the Quick Action Grants and other donations, this event was up and running again. Approximately 850 participants attended this hoppy event and visited over 20 easter decorated car trunks to receive an easter treat. The easter bunny was on hand to take photos and participants enjoys a BBQ to end a wonderful day. Organizations and local businesses supported this event and food donations went to the Maple Hill Baptist Church. Thank you to the organizers, organizations, businesses, residence, and volunteers for hosting this incredible event.
